Today, Tracy and I took Joshua for his first day of Jr. High at Victor Central School. We had to get up extra early so we could drop off Gracy with a sitter (thanks, Becca!) and meet with his guidance counselor. It was a little more emotional than I anticipated as we prayed with him before heading out. Something pretty interesting happened, though, that I thought illustrated a great Bible truth . . . . Before we left, Joshua's guidance counselor (she's awesome, by the way!) went and got another 8th grade student named Brandon. Brandon was the boy chosen by one of Joshua's teachers to "show him around" and help him find all the places he needed to be today. He was basically going to shadow Joshua for most of the day . . . . where's the locker? where's the lunchroom? where's the bus loop? probably even where's the bathroom?! As I was driving home, I thought, what a great picture of the Holy Spirit in our lives! As Jesus was preparing his disciples for the reality that He would not always be there physically with them, He said these words in John 14:16: "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever - the Spirit of truth." And then in verses 26 and 27 we read: "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." What an awesome truth! God's Holy Spirit lives within every believer in Jesus Christ . . . . He comforts, guides, teaches, and convicts. We are NEVER alone! The Holy Spirit is our "Brandon" helping us each and every day. May that truth encourage us today. Have a BLESSED day!
