I've been intently watching the activity taking place near our home in Farmington these past few days. Right along Route 96 there is what looks to be a little diner or restaurant that has been undergoing some renovation. In the window a sign has been posted that says, "Coming Soon!" On my way to an appointment yesterday I noticed that there were several cars in the parking lot, some balloons tied to the railings, and a number of people milling about inside. The "Coming Soon" sign had been replaced with one that said "Grand Opening!" I thought, "great, they're open!" And then I realized something . . . . there was no sign on the outside of the building that said what this place was! I assume it's a diner based on it's appearance from the road, but I honestly have no idea. It got me thinking about the signs on our Christian lives . . . . we read in Acts 11:26 that "the disciples were called Christians first at Antioch." There was something so evident about these early believers, that they were labeled "Christians," presumably because they were demonstrating by their words and actions that they were following Jesus Christ. There was no doubt about it! When people look at our lives today, what "label" or "sign" do they put on us? Well, Jesus gave us some very clear direction on what we should be doing to leave little doubt in people's minds: "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John 13:35). The sterling quality that shows a lost and dying world our allegiance to Jesus is our care and compassion for God's people. Let's not leave people wondering who we are! May the sign on our life be plainly visible to all: "Believer in Jesus Christ!" Have a BLESSED day!
